IT NEVER RAINS, BUT IT POURS...!

People of Ireland Predict the Unpredictable Summer Weather Trends

Centra partners with weather enthusiast Carlow Weather, Alan O’Reilly, to Launch Whatever the Weather Campaign, which gives customers the chance to turn grey days and hay days into pay days!

· Dublin (19%) expected to reach highest temperatures, followed by Wexford (12%)

· Donegal (21%) and Galway (19%) predicted to be in the top wettest counties this summer

· The busiest beach in Ireland is expected to be Curracloe in Wexford (22%)

· Cork tipped to be third wettest (14%) and sunniest (10%) county this summer

· The majority (33%) of Irish people believe w/c 15th July will be the hottest in Ireland

· Wettest week predicted by most (35%) to arrive w/c 26th of August, so break out the poncho

12th June 2024: Irish people are ready to take on the summer – rain, hail or shine. That’s according to a new survey conducted by Centra to launch their new Whatever the Weather summer campaign. The convenience retailer has gone straight to the source, the people of Ireland, to find out just what type of summer weather we’re looking forward to… And like the Irish weather, their predictions mix the gloomy and the glorious.

Overall, the outlook is predictably, unpredictable. The Capital is expected to reach the highest temperatures by one in five (19%), followed by the lucky inhabitants of east coast Co. Wexford (12%). This contrasts with a mere 1% predicting that Louth and Monaghan will be the country’s least summery spots.

Rain, as always, is never far away, with Donegal (21%) and Galway (19%) predicted to be in the top wettest counties this summer. So pack the wellies. Pack the sun cream and rain coat if taking a trip to Cork, with the rebel county tipped to be third hottest (10%) and wettest (14%) this summer.

Rain or shine might be just around the corner, and reassuringly, Centra is too with sizzling summer specials. Whatever the weather, Centra has everything you need to take on the summer with unbelievable value. To celebrate, Centra is turning hay days or grey days into pay days, with Centra vouchers up for grabs on certain days throughout the summer. Simply take a screen grab of the weather app on your phone, share it to your social channels tagging @Centra_irl and use the hashtag #whatevertheweather to be in a chance to win.

Dry robe or no dry robe, the beaches will be busy this summer with almost four in 10 (37%) expected to hit the coastal waterways more than 10 times this summer. The busiest beach in Ireland is expected to be Curracloe in Wexford (22%), followed by Portmarknock in Dublin

(14%), with Keem Bay, Achill Island (10%), Inch Strand, Kerry (10%) and Tramore Beach in Waterford (10%) all tying for third place.

And if you like to grill and chill those summer days and nights away at the BBQ, the national outlook is pessimistic, with 65% of people expecting to BBQ less than 10 times all summer. And the idea of eating or cooking outside everyday throughout the summer for young people is a mere myth to young people (18–24-year-olds), with 95% stating that has no chance of happening.

Speaking at the launch, campaign ambassador, weather enthusiast and the voice behind Carlow Weather, Alan O’Reilly said: “As a nation, we are obsessed with the weather - and no one more so than me! It’s a pleasure to partner with Centra for this campaign and I can’t wait to see how the people of Ireland’s predictions stack up. Either way, the Whatever The Weather Pay Days campaign ensures customers are rewarded, as whether it’s a hay day or a grey day, it could be a pay day!”
