This highlights foods that are a good source of key nutrients.  We have looked at iron, calcium, vitamin D, vitamin A as well as omega-3s and vitamin C.  Foods that are a ‘source of’ a nutrient must have at least 15% of the Recommended Daily Allowance for that nutrient.  This means you know that you are getting good amount of the nutrient from that food.  I often hear people talking about broccoli being a good source of calcium – but you would have to eat 16 servings of broccoli a day to get all of the calcium you need.   This is why you won’t see broccoli highlighted as a source of calcium at Centra but you will see it on other foods that are a good source of calcium.
