The addition of peas and bacon add a bit of colour as well as extra flavour to the classic comfort dish that is macaroni and cheese. Yum!

4 rasher chopped into cubes

1 piece macaroni is best but any other small pasta will do.

Heat the grill. Put the bacon in a small roasting or casserole dish and drizzle with olive oil. Put under the grill. Keep an eye on it while continuing on with the recipe.

Meanwhile, cook the pasta in a saucepan of boiling hot water to the packet's instructions. It will take between 8 and 10 minutes. For the last 2 minutes, add the frozen peas to cook with the pasta.

Once the bacon is cooked, remove the dish from under the grill. When the pasta and peas are done, drain but keep 50ml of the pasta water. Put the pasta, peas and this pasta water into the dish with the bacon. Add the creme fraiche, 60g of the grated cheese, salt and pepper and mix everything well.

Sprinkle the remaining 40g of cheese on top and put back under the grill for 10 minutes until golden and bubbling. And there you have it – the perfect meal in minutes!
